NEW YORK, New York — The New York Yankees experienced a memorable night after defeating the Baltimore Orioles 6-1, but the most notable moment did not only come from the final score.
At Camden Yards, Gerrit Cole continued writing another chapter in his Bronx career by surpassing a historic milestone once held by the legendary Roger Clemens.
With an outstanding performance, Cole proved that he is continuing to build his own legacy in a Yankees uniform, becoming one of the most memorable pitchers of his generation.
Gerrit Cole delivered a nearly flawless performance, pitching 6 innings while allowing only 1 run, giving up 4 hits, 1 walk, and recording 8 strikeouts.
The performance helped Cole raise his career strikeout total with the Yankees to 1,015, officially passing Roger Clemens on the franchise’s all time strikeout leaderboard.

This was a special milestone because Clemens was once one of the greatest pitchers ever to wear a New York uniform, producing many dominant seasons throughout his career.
However, Cole did not just pass a legendary name in Yankees history, he also continued to establish himself among the top pitchers ever to play for the franchise.
At 35 years old, Cole continues to show impressive control and dominance, using a fastball that reached 97 mph to consistently challenge the Orioles lineup.
The only damage Cole allowed in the game came from a solo home run by Dylan Beavers in the fifth inning.
Outside of that moment, he completely controlled the game and helped the Yankees maintain command throughout the contest.
Following the victory, Cole improved his season record to 7 wins and 6 losses, with impressive numbers including a 3.11 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP, and 100 strikeouts across 92.2 innings.
Along with Cole’s dominant outing, the Yankees offense also delivered an effective performance to complete the victory over the Orioles.
New York scored three runs in the third inning after a Baltimore defensive error extended the inning, before Ben Rice and Heliot Ramos created more separation with clutch hitting.
Luis García Jr. and Spencer Jones then increased the advantage with back to back solo home runs in the sixth inning.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. finished the successful night with an RBI triple in the eighth inning.
The victory helped the Yankees complete a three game sweep over the Orioles while strengthening their position in the American League East race.
For Gerrit Cole, the milestone of passing Roger Clemens is not just another statistic, but a testament to his journey of building a legacy with one of MLB’s most historic franchises.
Although he still remains behind some of the greatest legends in Yankees history such as Whitey Ford and Mariano Rivera, Cole continues creating his own story in New York.
And with his current form, Yankees fans have every reason to believe that the final chapters of Gerrit Cole’s career in the Bronx can still include many unforgettable moments.
