Giants Finalizing Deal with Cleveland Browns Tight End, Who Had 81 Receptions and 882 Yards in a Single Season, More Than All Giants TE Combined in 2026

Posted Sep 9, 2026

East Rutherford, New Jersey - The Giants are closing on David Njoku. The Browns tight end is the biggest target on the board.

In 2023 he caught 81 passes for 882 yards and 6 touchdowns. That season still sits on every scout sheet.

Those numbers beat what all New York tight ends combined posted in 2026. The group finished with 772 yards and 3 scores.

That gap is the entire pitch. One veteran outproduced a room. John Harbaugh wants that mismatch in blue.

Njoku is not a gadget piece. He wins contested balls, runs after the catch, and still puts a hat on a linebacker.

Albert Breer noted New York already has bodies at the position. Adding Njoku is not depth. It is a change in the passing math.

His size and speed create problems down the seam. Defenses that load the box for the run suddenly owe a safety to the tight end.

He also blocks. The Giants’ staff wants a tight end who can stay on the field for early downs and still threaten the third.

Harbaugh said:

“He put up 81 catches, 882 yards, and 6 scores. That is more than our entire tight end group in 2026. You do not pass on a player who beat a whole room by himself.”

The contract talk is being framed as a win for New York. A proven producer at a position that just finished under water.

Who gets the football matters less than who can move a chain. Njoku has done both against starting defenses.

Big Blue has watched tight ends disappear in the box score. This signing is meant to end that habit before September.

Cleveland is losing a featured target. The Giants are buying the one season that still outranks an entire 2026 position group.

If the ink dries this week, Njoku walks into a room that needed a ceiling. Eighty-one catches is the new standard, not a memory.
